Driving You Crazy: Who Has the Right-of-Way?

LAS VEGAS - A viewer asks who has the right of way: a driver making a u-turn on a green arrow or a driver turning right on a red light?

Often, both drivers believe they have the right of way. Those drivers turning right on red may believe that, but the driver making the u-turn on the green light has the legal right of way.

The law says the car turning right on red must "yield right-of-way to pedestrians and traffic." Those red right turners must let the green u-turners make their u-turns. That car making the u-turn on the green arrow always has the right-of-way over the car turning right on red as long as it's at intersections that allow u-turns.

U-turns are legal anywhere in Las Vegas, except where signs prohibit them.
