Father arrested after child shoots self

LAS VEGAS -  A valley father has been arrested for the shooting death of his 12-year-old son.

Metro Police said it all unfolded on Feb. 13 when officers were called to a home in the 1600 block of Western Lily Street near N. Buffalo and Vegas drives to investigate a report of a child shot.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 12-year-old boy suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The child was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Metro says investigators determined the child's injury was self-inflicted.  The gun belonged to the child's father, 31-year-old Olin Manuel.

Manuel was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Clark County Detention Center where he faces the following charges:

  • Child Abuse with Substantial Bodily Harm Resulting in Death
  • Possession of Firearm by Prohibited Person

The identity of the 12-year-old boy, as well as the cause and manner of his death, will be released later by the Clark County Coroner's Office.
