Few Stolen Guns Are Ever Recovered

Only a small percentage of firearms reported stolen to law enforcement agencies in Nevada are recovered, according to data from the Nevada Department of Public Safety.

From 2002 through 2011, police received reports of more than $16.2 million in stolen firearms statewide but recovered slightly less than $1.8 million, or 10.9 percent of that value.

Henderson Police recovered 17.2 percent of the value of guns reported stolen during that 10-year period, but the recovery rates were only 9.4 percent for Metro Police and 4.7 percent for North Las Vegas Police during the same time frame.
