Fire Breaks Out at Pig Farm in North Las Vegas

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Firefighters were busy for several hours Sunday trying to put out several fires at a pig farm near Ann Road and 5th Street in North Las Vegas.

The fire broke out shortly after 12:30 p.m. at R.C. Farms at the 500 block of El Camp Grande Avenue and caught several hay and manure piles on fire. The farm is home to hundreds of pigs, chickens, and roosters, who were not harmed by the fire.

According to North Las Vegas Fire officials, the fire is believed to be accidental and possibly caused by spontaneous combustion.

High winds in the area caused the smoke and flames to shift which made it difficult for the fire crews to fight. The smoke created blind spots along Ann Road, where several homes are located, but firefighters were able to keep the fire away from the houses.

By 5:00 p.m., the fire had been contained and fire officials said there was no cause for concern for those who may live in the area and have respiratory issues.
