Firefighters Rescue Dozens in Valley Flooding

LAS VEGAS – Clark County firefighters have responded to about 40 swift water rescue calls for help from people primarily stuck in their cars because of rising flood waters Tuesday afternoon.

Some of the calls involve more than one vehicle, Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin said.

Firefighters rescued 15 people just in the flooded Sloan and Sahara area, he said. In total, about 50 people were rescued from their cars, which had become stuck in flood waters.

Early reports show that in some cases the water was – and might still be – several feet high. Firefighters are busy helping people from their vehicles, he said.

The public is reminded to stay away from flooded roads and intersections as the water may be deeper than it appears.
