Flash flood watch issued for most of the weekend

LAS VEGAS -- The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a flash flood watch for portions of northwest Arizona, California and Nevada for most of the weekend.

In Nevada, the areas under the watch include Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Las Vegas valley, Lincoln County, Sheep Range, northeast, southern and western Clark County, Spring Mountains-Red Rock Canyon and southern Nye County.

In Arizona, the areas impacted are Lake Havasu, Fort Mohave, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, northwest deserts and northwest plateau.

The watch is in place from Saturday afternoon through 10 p.m. Sunday. A substantial increase in moisture will accompany a low pressure system moving up from Baja California and northwest Mexico. The extra moisture is expected to bring thunderstorms and heavy rain across southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.
