Folks celebrate unity in their community with a march

LAS VEGAS -     Members of the community gathered Saturday for the "I Love My City March." Dozens attended with signs in hand and ready to share a message.

The march took place in the Bolden area command in an effort to

promote community unity and outreach. Organizers say they want to show neighborhood pride by having people come together for an important cause aiming to reduce violence in the area.

Alex Salas is the Associate Pastor for Victory Outreach Church. Salas says, "we're an inner-city ministry. We're a ministry that desires basically to make a difference, to do something about the problem because we use to once be a part of the problem. But as we always say in our church, now we're part of the solution."

Bolden area command says there have been 8 homicides in its jurisdiction so far this year. Compared to the same time last year, the number is down by two.

Organizers say they hope these types of events will help that number to continue to go down.
