Former high school coach arrested for lewdness with a child

LAS VEGAS - The Clark County School District Police Department arrested a former boy's junior varsity soccer coach on one count of felony lewdness committed by a person over 18 with a child 14 or 15.

Juan Alfredo Chavez, 25, worked at Ed W. Clark High School when the alleged incident took place on Oct. 20, 2017. Police said it involved a 14-year-old female student.

Since Chavez was a volunteer and not a CCSD employee, as of Oct. 20, 2017, he is no longer allowed on any CCSD property and has been removed from the approved coaches list.

Before his ban, Chavez had served in a coaching capacity with CCSD since Dec. 2010 and had successfully passed a background check to be a coach and have contact with students.

Once the incident was reported, CCSD PD investigated the matter and referred the case to the Clark County District Attorney's Office for warrant review. Once that was approved, Chavez was then arrested at his residence and was booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
