Frank Cullotta Turns State's Witness

Mobster Frank Cullotta was one of Tony Spilotro's inner circle. He joined Spilotro's crew back in Chicago then moved to Las Vegas when Tough Tony was sent here to control street rackets and protect the casino skimming operation.

Cullotta was a master thief, part of the group that came to be known as the Hole in the Wall Gang for its audacious robberies in Las Vegas. But when the FBI was able to convince Cullotta that Spilotro had put a contract out on his life, Cullotta "flipped" and agreed to become a government witness.

He testified about murders he had been ordered to commit and many other crimes. His decision in 1982 to testify against fellow mobsters was a major development in the FBI's fight against organized crime in Las Vegas. The report above is how it aired back then.
