Free Dental Clinics Draws Hundreds

LAS VEGAS --  Health studies have shown that a significant portion of Nevada's children don't get dental care because their families lack insurance.

In an effort to help an under served community, several dentists pooled their efforts to hold a free dental clinic on Thursday at Pearson Community Center. The exams, medications and crowns were free.

The clinic was open to anyone who did not have insurance. Hundreds of people showed up, mostly families with younger children suffering with tooth aches so severe they couldn't eat food.

"It affects their speech. It affects the way they eat. If you're in pain, you can't eat. So, they have the failure to thrive. There's so many different components of having bad teeth that would affect overall health," said Dr. Timothy Wilson, Star Smiles Dentistry.
