Free Eye Screening for Diabetic Patients

LAS VEGAS -- People dealing with Type 1 diabetes can get a free eye screening during the month of November.

Dr. Ryan Peterson is offering free screenings for diabetic retinopathy including a photo to give the patient a baseline to compare in years to come.

Some 24,000 cases of blindness are caused every year by retinopathy and the screening exam can reveal early changes. An image of an eye with retinopathy shows hemorrhaging, aneurysms, and protein deposits. Dr Peterson says it tells him about a diabetic's other risks.

"Being able to find those changes really helps us in assessment for things that can happen down the road," he said. "For patients with diabetes who have these changes are twice as likely to have a stroke than a patient with diabetes who doesn't have these changes."

You can make an appointment for a free screening at Family Focused Eyecare at their Henderson office. Call 299-6200.
