Front Sight Again Fails to Meet Fire Safety Standards

The Front Sight Firearms Training Institute near Pahrump has once again failed to meet fire safety standards. A deadline came and went and now the State Fire Marshal is considering legal action against the facility.

Front Sight had until last Friday, Mar. 31 to outfit its classroom building with fire safety basics like sprinklers, fire pumps and water. It's no surprise despite claims construction was on target; Front Sight has again failed to meet its deadline. This is the fourth such failure in the last two years.

As the I-Team first reported, the State Fire Marshal's office has granted Front Sight several extensions to give it time to finish the job. The latest excuse is the company claims it needs another 12 to 16 weeks to get a storage tank to supply water to the fire suppression system.

The missed deadline on Friday means Front Sight no longer has a permit to legally use the classroom. Though that hasn't stopped them before.

In October of 2005, the I-Team attended class at the facility unaware it did not have a permit.

A representative with the State Fire Marshal's office previously had this to say about the situation. "They did not comply with the letter of the schedule of compliance but they did make progress. They were not completely ignoring me so; therefore, I was willing to work with them. It does no good to shut down a facility, it only causes more problems," said Jason Crosby with the Nevada Fire Marshal's office.

Though Front Sight has made some progress, Crosby tells the I-Team he's fed up with excuses. He now plans to consult with the Attorney General's office to consider legal action against Front Sight. It is against the law to operate without a permit and penalties include fines, or even shutting down the facility.

Front Sight also faces racketeering and fraud allegations in federal court. Several members have filed a class action lawsuit against the company.
