Every toss, ticket, and simile was in support of Fowler, his family, and his recovery.

“It's unbelievable the compassion that people have,” said Fowler.

The cornhole tournament held at Bubby’s University raised more than $3,000.

“He was willing to lay down his life for his wife and that to me is just the most incredible thing that I've ever heard,” said Ryan Ragland, attendee.

With every toss showed appreciation for the wounded hero.

“Kurt definitely chose to be a firefighter to help people and the amount of support that he's received from everybody else kind of reminds you that what goes around really does come around,” said Jasmine Roofe, family member.

Fowler expects to be out of the job he loves for at least an entire year, but he’s still choosing to focus on the good.

“There's so much good in the world and it's always going to outweigh evil. What evil's been done to get me to where I'm at is nothing compared to the good in the world,” Fowler said.
