Grand jury indicts mom for shooting her son

LAS VEGAS -- A 31-year-old woman accused of shooting her son in the head at a Las Vegas residence May 26 was indicted by a Clark County grand jury on charges of attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon and child abuse.

Bail was set at $750,000 for Shavon Jacklein Aguilar, who remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center. She is due to appear in court Sept. 8.

Prosecutors say that Aguilar was distraught over the breakup of her marriage when she entered a bedroom of a residence near Vegas Drive and Decatur Boulevard and shot her then 11-year-old son with a rifle. He was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition and is now being treated at a care center, where he continues to suffer from limited movement.
