Halloween decor scares neighbor, prompts 911 call

LAS VEGAS - Halloween is almost upon us, so break out the ghouls and gobblings, and sometimes -- overly freaky scenes!  This was exactly the scene at a home in Greenville, Tennessee this week.

Officers in the area rushed to a home to investigate what they thought was a heinous crime scene after dispatchers received a chilling 911 call, but it all turned out to be a Halloween joke.

One of 8 News NOW's parent company, Nexstar's, sister station, WJHL, obtained a copy of that 911 call from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

9-1-1 Caller:  “There’s a guy laying in his driveway, with two big bloody handprints on the side of the house. It looks like he was dead I don’t know I didn’t stop I just came on to work.”

Johnny Riddle made that frantic call to 911 after seeing what appeared to be a dead body in his neighbor’s driveway.

“I thought it was somebody, I thought it was somebody laying up there on the driveway,” Riddle said.

But the dead body turned out to be nothing more than clothing stuffed with paper.

Joseph Lovergive and his family live in the home. They say Halloween is their favorite time of the year, so they always start the decorating early.

“I thought it looked so real and so fun and I hope people don’t take offense,” Lovergine said.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office decided to warn the public about the prank by adding a little bit of humor – on its Facebook page.
