Heavy Damage in Northwest Valley After Sunday Storms

LAS VEGAS -- It wasn't long after rain came pouring down in the northwest valley that flooding followed.

Rocks, trees and mud made their way onto U.S. 95, forcing Nevada Highway Patrol to shut down the highway. The closure left many driving around in circles.

"We drove down this way, it was flooded. We drove down that way, it was flooded. So, we just decided to get in the middle and wait," said Chuck Campbell.

The Campbells ended up stranded with many others on the overpass at U.S. 95 and Horse Drive.

NHP said large boulders blocked the road on southbound U.S. 95, and flooding made it impossible for to open the highway to the north.

The Sky Pointe overpass also became a cause for concern for the Nevada Department of Transportation. Crews were out testing its stability.

Scott Donald watched as the storm came in. He was on Kyle Canyon Road when it started to flood.

"We saw it going across. It was cool to watch it come in, but a little freaky at the same time," said Donald. He said he waited for hours to get back on the road.

"We've been here a little more than three hours and, about two hours ago, they told us we'd be off and running by now," said Donald.

NDOT crews spent hours clearing debris from the road with bulldozers.
