Henderson Police launch bike patrol

HENDERSON, Nev. -- Some Henderson police officers are now conducting their patrols on a bicycle. The department launched its 18-member bike unit Thursday.

The unit will conduct enforcement on trails and at city events, such as the upcoming Fourth of July celebration. It will also educate the community about bicycle safety. Henderson was recently named as a Bicycle Friendly Community.

A $45,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice paid for the bicycles, uniforms, helmets and bike racks for the patrol cars.
