Henderson Police Officer Fired After Destroying Vehicle

HENDERSON, Nev. -- An officer with Henderson Police Department's SWAT unit was fired Monday for "serious policy violations" after his police vehicle was totally destroyed.

Officer Justin Simo's police vehicle caught fire on Feb. 28. According to a statement released by Henderson Police Chief Patrick Moers, the fire resulted from serious policy violations.

"I must have confidence that our officers will follow all policies and procedures designed to protect city property from avoidable damage, and that ensure officer safety and the safety of the public."

A witness told police, the tire blew out on the vehicle and the officer continued to drive for more than a mile causing the sparks from the tire rim to catch the SUV on fire.
