HENDERSON, Nev. -- One of the 4 people killed in a U.S. consulate attack in Libya had ties to the Las Vegas valley.

The State Department confirms 41-year-old Tyrone Woods was an ex-Navy SEAL and was among the dead when Islamic extremists attacked in Benghazi. Neighbors say Woods had just moved to Henderson with his wife.

Neighbors say they didn't see much of Tyrone or his wife Dorothy. Woods only lived in the neighborhood for a few months, but their brief interaction with Tyrone left a lasting impression.

"He was a very warm gentleman, obviously a new father so very excited for his first child, and just someone who would have made a great addition to the neighborhood. I'm very devastated that this happened," said neighbor Stacy Economan.

Stacy says she saw her neighbor only a few times as he was busy preparing the house for his wife and new baby to join him from California. Besides his new son Kai, he also had two teenage children.

The State Department says Woods served multiple tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. Officials say Woods had protected American diplomatic personnel in dangerous areas such as Libya since 2010.

Tyrone's former wife Patricia Ann So says the ex-Navy SEAL was a true hero. "He really needs to be honored," she said.

Tyrone's widow Dorothy Woods is a Navy trained dentist and listed to have a practice in La Jolla, California. Efforts to contact her were unsuccessful.

The State Department says Tyrone was also a Navy-trained medic. Funeral arrangements have not been made public.
