UPDATE: Detectives say teen girl was killed and set on fire

LAS VEGAS - A teenaged girl is killed and set on fire. Detectives are now working to figure out who is responsible.

According to investigators, a neighbor found the badly burned body of the teenager on Saturday just yards away from an apartment complex in the area Washington Avenue and Rock Springs Drive.

"It's still shocking to see all the police out here. It's upsetting. It's disturbing," said Michelle Bullis who lives in the area.

Homicide detectives with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department say there are more questions than answers at this time in the investigation.

"I can't tell race but she does appear to have braids in her hair, shoulder length braids and it looks like she was burned, post-mortem," Lt. Dan McGrath, LVMPD Homicide said.

Detectives are currently working to determine if the victim was killed in the same place where her body was found.

The gruesome discovery is frightening to neighbors who feel there's been more crime in the area lately.

"It gets worse and worse every week. Every week. Cops coming in here all the time," Bullis said.

Police talked with neighbors to see if they noticed anything suspicious as they work to find out how long the body had been there.

Investigators say they are also collecting video from nearby surveillance cameras in hopes of tracking down the person responsible for this crime.

"The faster we identify her the faster we'll be able to figure out who she was with and who she associated with and who might have done this" Lt McGrath said.

Officers are also looking at missing person reports to see if there could be a connection to this case.

The coroner's office will release the name of the victim once she's identified and family is notified. No suspect description has been released at this time.
