Huge fire destroys commercial building

One firefighter suffered minor injury

LAS VEGAS - Thick smoke could be seen for miles around the valley as firefighters worked for hours to battle a fire that burned several businesses near The Orleans Hotel.

The fire was reported at 1 a.m. inside a carpet recycling business in the 4300 block of Cameron Street, near W Harmon Ave and S Decatur Blvd.

The fire quickly grew to three alarms as more crews were called from other stations.  At one point an estimated 80 -100 first responders were on the scene from the Las Vegas and Clark County fire departments.

One firefighter suffered some cuts.  He was treated and released at the scene.

Thick, dark smoke lingered in the air around the buildings as firefighters attacked the flames from the ground and from above.  The fire burned for more than four hours.

Firefighters are worried about the safety of the building. The roof is gone and there is concern the sides could collapse.

The owners of several businesses showed up to the scene of the fire to assess the damage.  It was not immediately know which businesses suffered the most damage.
