Husband and wife drown at Lake Havasu

LAS VEGAS - A man and woman are dead after being pulled from the water at Lake Havasu on Friday afternoon.

The woman, 41-year-old Esmeralda Gonzalez jumped from a boat to go for a swim, according to Mohave County Sheriff investigators.

Her husband, 44-year-old Raul Gonzalez, jumped in the water when she began to panic, investigators said.

Both were seen struggling to swim before going under water. Esmeralda was pulled from the water and brought to the Crazy Horse Docks where off duty deputies with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Office began CPR.

Lake Havasu City Fire Department responders pronounced her dead at the scene. Search crews found Raul at the bottom of the lake in about 12 feet of water.

Both Esmeralda and Raul were not wearing life jackets, according to investigators. They were visiting from Monrovia, California.

There was another man and two children also on the boat when the drownings happened.

Autopsy results are pending. Investigators believe alcohol may be a factor. The accident remains under investigation.
