UPDATE: All lanes of I-15 now open near Baker, Calif.

LAS VEGAS - California Highway Patrol opened both the north and southbound lanes of I-15 Friday afternoon.

I-15 was closed to traffic in both directions in California from the Valley Wells rest area to Baker for several hours causing major traffic delays.

"I was leaving and saw that it was closed. I-15 south was closed so I took an off exit to take another way and that ended up being closed and I had to come all the way back, " said driver Danae Caspary.

The southbound lanes reopened to traffic around 11 a.m. and the northbound lanes opened back up at 1:10 p.m.

According to CHP, the incident started just before 2:20 a.m. when a CHP officer attempted to pull over the driver of a vehicle who was driving erratically and speeding. That driver shot at the CHP officer.

The fleeing driver later crashed the vehicle and fired at CHP officers again. CHP spent hours searching unsuccessfully for the suspect/suspects.

Traffic continued to move slowly throughout the evening near Baker.
