I-TEAM: 1 October survivors still wait for funds

LAS VEGAS - It's been exactly three months since the deadly shooting that left 58 people dead on the Las Vegas Strip and questions remain about the funds set up to help victims and survivors.

Kimberly Baker was going to meet 8 News NOW at the healing garden in Downtown Las Vegas. She's a survivor of the 1 October shooting massacre, but at the last minute, she wanted to meet at the home where's she's staying.

“I just didn't want to leave the house and drive,” Baker said. “I don't know. I'm afraid to go out in the world. I don't know.”

Like many survivors, Baker suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or P.T.S.D. and hasn't worked steadily since the 1 October shootings. Baker has been behind on bills, rent, and that's why she was relying on money from funds set up for survivors. Baker says she received word without much of an explanation that the check she was expecting isn't coming.

“I filled out a million pieces of paper and nothing, it’s very frustrating,” Baker said.

Baker adds she was working as a bartender at the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival with the memories still haunting her.

“It's just really hard, you remember everything that happened,” Baker added.

Three months later, more pain from what survivors describe as broken promises.

Commissioner Steve Sisolak played a major role in setting up the largest victim’s fund. He says protocol is being worked out for disbursing donations.

8 News NOW also reached out to Caesar’s Palace about another fund set up through resorts and did not receive a response in time.
