I-Team: Billionaire has new plan for company; hopes to have spaceport orbit moon by 2022

LAS VEGAS - The 8 News NOW I-Team spoke with Las Vegas billionaire Robert Bigelow, and he has a new goal for his space company, "Lunar Sooner."

On Tuesday, Bigelow announced a new partnership to build a spaceport orbiting the moon by 2022.  Bigelow's Aerospace would build the spacecraft at its plant in North Las Vegas, then its partner, United Launch Alliance, would supply the launch vehicles needed to get the lunar depot into orbit and then to the moon.

Bigelow told the I-Team Tuesday morning that his plan calls for the launch within four years.
The two private companies have already spent hundreds of millions of dollars on the development of what would become a permanent facility in low-lunar orbit.

According to Bigelow, it would give NASA and other space-faring nations a destination for future missions.
