I-Team: Goodwill facing financial struggles

LAS VEGAS - Some financial struggles at Goodwill of Southern Nevada have resulted in job cuts.

More Goodwill stores have opened up throughout the Las Vegas valley in recent years, but now there's some downsizing.

A spokesman said, Goodwill of Southern Nevada is working to get its financial situation stable. There's a hiring freeze and there have been several job cuts.

On June 28, 29 employees were laid off, including shift leader positions inside some of the stores. And on June 11, 11 people were laid off in corporate positions in the marketing, IT, security, HR, and donated goods departments.

Also, the long time CEO stepped down. It's still unclear why that happened. A temporary replacement is in the job while a search takes place for a new CEO.

The spokesman said, Goodwill's mission is to help people find jobs, and money made inside the stores helps achieve that, but people are shopping less these days.

He also adds, that donations are up this year by 7 percent from last year.
