I-Team: Opening statements underway in Bundy standoff retrial

LAS VEGAS - Four men are on trial for the second time in connection with the armed standoff in Bunkerville three years ago. Opening statements began Monday at the federal courthouse.

The defense told the jurors the men were protesting and had guns.

The U.S. government describes them as taking the law into their own hands and said this case is not about beliefs, but about conduct.

Ricky Lovelien of Montana, Eric parker, O. Scott Drexler and Steven Stewart, three friends from Idaho, are on trial again after a jury could not reach a decision.

All four men were at the armed standoff in Bunkerville three years ago.

Rancher Cliven Bundy asked for help after the Bureau of Land Management seized his cattle which was court -ordered because the cattle was illegally grazing on public lands.

no one was hurt at the standoff.

The first witness Monday was Sheriff Joe Lombardo who testified officers were outnumbered and he had no choice but to release the cattle because of the angry, armed crowd.
