I-Team: Survivor's mom starts petition to get rid of Mandalay Bay suite where gunman stayed

LAS VEGAS - Thousands of lives were changed on Oct. 1 when 58 people were killed, and 546 others were injured during a mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival.  The gunman opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino, and now a mother of one of the survivor's wants to make sure that room where gunman Stephen Paddock was hiding when he released his hail of bullets will never again see the light of day.

The I-Team spoke exclusively  Cassie Maldonado who started the petition.  Maldonado of California says she hopes to make sure no one will ever be able to book that room again.

Maldonado wants the room gutted, sealed, and drywall like it never existed. So, far her petition is getting support.

Maldonado says she started the petition because she doesn't want the suite to become a tourist attraction or for Mandalay Bay.  She says her daughter was at the country music festival and escaped without physical injuries thanks to a good Samaritan.

Maldonado says she wants to help people such as the victims and survivors heal emotionally, by leading the way to get rid of the suite.

"It's one less thing they have to worry about," Maldonado said when the I-Team spoke to her over the phone. "It's one less thing that they have to wonder 'is another crazy person gonna be in there? Is another person going to start shooting at people out of those windows just because?'  People do the craziest things and the idea that the room would be left.  It just needs to be sealed over.  We're not asking for the whole floor or tear down the hotel. It's one suite."

On the petition's website, there are some comments from people who say they are survivors or related to survivors and agree the suite should no longer exist.

Maldonado says she has reached out to Mandalay Bay and MGM which owns the property, but she says she still hasn't received a response.

The I-Team also reached out and did not receive a response.
