The identity of a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper who shot and killed a carjacking suspect earlier in the week was released Friday.
NHP said the trooper, David Dudley, is a 17 year veteran of law enforcement.
The officer-involved shooting occurred Wednesday morning near American Pacific Drive and Gibson Road in Henderson.
NHP says the suspect carjacked a vehicle at a gas station near Fremont Street and Eastern Avenue leaving two people injured.
NHP says the suspect was driving erratically along southbound U.S. 95, prompting troopers to pursue the vehicle. The suspect hit a vehicle on the highway near the Charleston exit and eventually exited onto Auto Show Drive where he attempted to carjack another vehicle from an elderly couple, NHP said.
At around 7:30 a.m., the suspect was shot when troopers tried to take the man into custody.
The suspect was transported to Sunrise Hospital where he died from his injuries. The identity of the suspect will be released later by the Clark County Coroner's office.
Metro Police is investigating the shooting.
