Initiative helps find families for nearly 300 dogs

LAS VEGAS -- Nearly 300 dogs found families, during a special adoption week at the Animal Foundation.

Be a Hero Week ended Sunday. It offered pit bulls and Chihuahuas for a $40 adoption fee. Those two breeds were targeted because they are the most likely to face euthanasia. The shelter was able to find homes for 59 pit bulls, 121 chihuahuas and 109 dogs of various breeds.

Summer is the busiest time of year for the shelter, because of the increase in the number of animals being turned in.

Despite the uptick in adoptions, more than 350 animals, including more than 120 pit bulls and more than 20 chihuahuas, are available for adoption.

To adopt a pet, The Animal Foundation operates two adoption centers:

? Campus Adoption Center (655 N. Mojave Road, Las Vegas) open 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. daily

? PetSmart Charities Everyday Adoption Center (286 W. Lake Mead Parkway, Henderson) open 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. daily

(closing 7 p.m. on Sundays)

Adoption fees include spay/neuter surgery, microchip and up-to-date vaccines. For more information go to animalfoundation.com or call (702) 384-3333 ext.131
