I-Team: Court Marshal's Gun Used in Teen's Killing

LAS VEGAS -- The gun used to kill Betty Jean Pinkney was stolen from a Clark County Court marshal's home, according to Metro Police.

The police report released Wednesday tracks the alleged murder weapon from the marshal's house to the hands of accused gang members.

The police said the gun was stolen from the house of justice court marshal Ronald Brooks.

According to the police report, Brooks and his wife went on vacation, storing the gun under his bed, when it went missing.

There are conflicting reports about where that gun went.

A stolen property report said a friend of Brooks' teenage son stole the gun during a house party.

But the teenage son said the gun was stolen by gang members when the son began walking the streets while carrying his father's service gun.

That gun was tracked to murder suspect Demetrius Black. Black was charged with the girl's death after police linked the gun to him.

The police said that while Brooks allowed robbery detectives to talk to his son about the stolen gun, he denied homicide detectives access to his son.

The I-Team reached out to justice court administration to find out what investigation or disciplinary action they took against Brooks concerning the stolen gun.

In addition to the killing, the marshal's stolen gun was also fired during two robberies, one battery and two shootings into a building, the police said.
