I-Team: New twist in Nye Co. assistant sheriff case

PAHRUMP, Nev. -- One of the top cops in Nye County finds himself going after his own detective.

The I-Team first reported last Tuesday that Assistant Nye County Sheriff Rick Marshall was arrested. He is accused of fighting his own deputies when they caught him ripping out his opponent's campaign signs.

The assistant sheriff was not placed on leave, denying he did anything wrong. Instead, the I-Team learned Monday the detective investigating Marshall is now on leave.

Sources tell the I-Team the detective's supervisors received a search warrant to take the detective's personal cell phone. However, Nye County's district attorney reversed that search warrant.

The detective at the center of this case also leads the Nye County Police Officers Association. The association plans a news conference Thursday.

The Nye County Sheriff's Office did not return requests for comment.
