Jury selection begins for 'Thunder' shooting case

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Jury selection has begun for the trial of a 24-year-old man accused of firing a gun as he tried to make off with costumes and props used by Thunder From Down Under male performers on the Las Vegas Strip.

Proceedings began Monday with prosecutors dropping eight charges against Joey Kadmiri, including attempted murder, armed robbery and several robbery with use of a weapon.

Kadmiri still faces multiple felony charges that could get him decades in state prison if he's convicted. He has pleaded not guilty.

His defense attorneys say Kadmiri has drug and mental health issues. They haven't said if he'll testify. Trial is expected to take all week in Nevada state court.

No one was seriously wounded in the March 18 incident backstage at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino.
