Killings Leave Nevada Town on Edge

RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Authorities are seeking murder charges against a 25-year-old Fernley man in a string of five apparently random killings in northern Nevada.

Lyon County Sheriff Allen Veil says the five victims found dead in three separate locations Monday suffered gunshot wounds.

Suspect Jeremiah Bean was arrested Monday on suspicion of burglary, and authorities are now seeking other charges, including murder and arson.

Eighty-four-year-old victims Robert and Dorothy Pape were found dead at their home, while 67-year-old Angie Duff and a 69-year-old man were found dead at a home around the corner.

Officials say Bean had been staying two houses down from Duff.

A 52-year-old man was found dead along the road near the Mustang Ranch brothel. Authorities believe Bean killed him and stole his vehicle.

Deputies believe Bean acted alone.
