Kincaid-Chauncey Loses Re-Election Bid

(Sep. 8) -- After 25 years of public service and a disappointing defeat, Clark County Commissioner Mary Kincaid-Chauncey says she's retiring from politics for good.

Now the two candidates vying for her District B seat are Tom Collins (D) and Shari Buck (R), who both won impressive numbers inTuesday night's primary election. And who both want to be sitting in Kincaid-Chauncey's chair come January.

A disappointed Mary Kincaid-Chauncey was back at work for Wednesday's Clark County Commission meeting where she told Eyewitness News it will be business as usual until she leaves office for good. "I will continue to do my job that I was elected to do, until the first of January."

But after that, it will be either Democratic Assemblyman Tom Collins or Republican Shari Buck who fills the County Commission District B seat. With several thousand more Democrats than Republicans in that district, Tom Collins says he and his more than 1,100 volunteers are working very hard to make sure its him.

"We're gonna work to get more cops on the street to make our community safer," Collins said.

Both Collins and Buck have local government experience, though Buck believes her non-partisan position as a North Las Vegas City Councilwoman will help her win more crossover votes. "I have Democrats and Republicans who support me. They know me and my chracter."

Interestingly, Mary Kincaid-Chauncey, who is under indictment in the G-Sting political corruption probe, has not decided yet who she will throw her support behind. She says right now she is leaning toward Republican Shari Buck, but has agreed to meet with both candidates first before making a final decision.
