Kyle Canyon Rd. Opens to Residents Only

LAS VEGAS -- Kyle Canyon Road is open to limited traffic. Mountain residents will be allowed to use the road, but all other traffic will be diverted, Nevada Department of Transportation officials said.

According to NDOT, almost 1,000 feet of road at Mile Marker 18 was swept away in the gushing water.

Crews filled the huge gaps with gravel and dirt, but rain and live power lines are making it a daunting task.

It could be Thursday before the road is open to all traffic. Nevada Highway Patrol closed the road Sunday evening after part of it washed away during the flooding.

Currently, the alternate route for motorists, who do not live on the mountain, is to use Lee Canyon Road (SR 156) and cross over at Deer Creek Road to get to Kyle Canyon Road (SR 157).
