Lake Havasu boat crash leaves 1 dead, 1 missing

LAS VEGAS - One man is dead and a woman is missing following a boat crash on Lake Havasu over the weekend.

The single-boat crash happened around 8 p.m. Saturday. According to witnesses, the boat made a hard turn, causing it to lose control and ejecting all of the occupants into the water.

Another boat in the area was able to pick up the people, including a man who was unresponsive. Good Samaritans began CPR on the man while transporting everyone to London Bridge Beach where they were met by the Lake Havasu Fire and Police department officials.

The man, who was identified as 51-year-old Bruce Buchanan of Redondo Beach, California, was taken to Havasu Regional Medical center where he was pronounced dead.

A woman who was on the boat is still missing. A search for her is underway.

The boat eventually ran ashore at a high rate of speed near Spectator Point.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office, alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash. The operator was uninjured and is cooperating with the investigation.
