Las Vegas home prices continue to rise

LAS VEGAS -- July home prices in the Las Vegas metropolitan area rose 10.5 percent from the same month a year ago and were 1.1 percent higher than in June, CoreLogic reported Tuesday.

The performance in Las Vegas exceeded the average 7.4 percent annual gain nationally, the 29th straight month national home prices were higher than the same month a year earlier.

But the real estate analytics company from Irvine, Calif., also reported that Nevada home prices remained 36.4 percent below their pre-recession peak, the largest decline in the nation.

CoreLogic deputy chief economist Sam Khater also said that northeastern and midwestern states are beginning to experience greater home price increases than western and southern states.
