LAS VEGAS - Las Vegas is not likely to be selected as the second headquarters of Amazon. That's according to an analysis from Sperling's Best Places, which looked at demographics and data such as cost of living, housing prices, schools, and other factors.
Author Bert Sperling and his team collected 18 trusted lists and rankings of the potential Amazon locations and generated a score for each.
Atlanta tops the list as the most likely HQ2 city. Las Vegas comes in at 31st, just ahead of New Orleans, Orlando, and Indianapolis.
The online retail giant received more than 230 proposals from cities across North America looking to host its $5-billion headquarters.
While this list is far from official, Sperling is confident, writing: "Trust us - it's going to be Atlanta."
"Finding a metropolitan area that meets all Amazon's criteria is not only difficult, but impossible," wrote Sperling. "And the HQ2 project is such a massive scale, that it can transform an area, adding missing infrastructure to meet its needs."
Here is Sperling's top 10 rankings of likely locations for Amazon's second headquarters:
5. Washington, D.C.
6. Austin, TX
9. New York City
10. Raleigh, NC
This week the Wall Street Journal also announced its own Top-10 list. The WSJ picked Dallas as #1.
