Local Runners Show Support for Boston Marathon Victims

HENDERSON, Nev. -- Their hearts are nearly 3,000 miles away.

A group of runners in Henderson showed their support for the victims of the Boston Marathon Bombing Sunday.

At least 50 people were up before dawn, most were members of the group Las Vegas in Motion, and all had the same message.

"To show our spirit," said Marissa Temple. "To show we're not afraid to run, because we love to run, and we're not scared."

"Show solidarity," said John Everett. "That we're not going to put up with this kind of stuff. We're not afraid of it, and we're going to continue to do what we do."

"The spectators, their family members, their friends," said Tim Kelly. "We want them to know that we're with them even if we're miles apart. That we're all part of the same family, and we'll stand there with them."

Marissa Temple has run six marathons. She normally finishes after just over four hours. That's around the time of the first explosion in Boston.

"I start thinking could that have been me? Could it have been somebody that I know," said Temple. "Just puts you in a state of panic that you could be living your life and something like that happen."

She said the initial fear and doubt turned to resolve. Sunday she hoped each step would bring her a little closer to where her heart is.

"All these people were doing in Boston was what they love. The people that were there watching were watching the people that they love," said Temple. "I hope that they see us, and show that we're there for them, we're there for runners, and we're not going anywhere."

The runners also put their money together to donate over $1600 to The One Fund Boston.
