Local Salvation Army Chapter Heading to Colorado

LAS VEGAS -- A team of four from the Salvation Army of Southern Nevada began its journey to Colorado Saturday in a vehicle called an 'emergency canteen'.

It serves as a mobile kitchen and can provide up to 600 meals at a time.

Alan Robinson is an officer with the Salvation Army in Henderson. He said they will be assigned an area to serve meals once they arrive in the state.

"From there, we'll be stationed wherever we are needed, which may be shelter or a staging area for emergency crews," said Robinson.

There are four people on the emergency disaster team, including Captain Julie Feist from Arizona. She's helped out in numerous disasters, including 9/11.

"You have no idea what a cup of water can do for somebody," said Feist.

With severe flooding in areas of Colorado, Julie said the team is anxious to begin helping with disaster relief so the community can begin to recover.
