LVVWD warns customers about fake water service disconnection calls

LAS VEGAS - The Las Vegas Valley Water District issued a warning Monday to customers and valley residents about suspicious phone call activities involving individuals claiming customers’ water service would be disconnected for failure to make payments.

Customers stated they have received phone calls instructing them to call a toll-free number to make payment and to avoid disconnection of their water service.

In some instances, customers were provided a “reference code” and instructed to go to a local drug or grocery store where they would be approved for an “express payment” on their water bills.  The LVVWD says individuals making and receiving these calls are not employees, and all Valley residents should exercise caution if someone claims to be with a water company and asks you to call them for payment of a water bill.

The telephone number provided by the LVVWD for billing payments or inquiries will not be a toll-free number, and you will never be asked to go to a local drug or grocery store. The telephone number provided will be the main Customer Care telephone number (702) 870-4194.

If you are concerned about someone who has called your home regarding your water service or have any questions, please call (702) 870-4194 during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m.).

After hours, call the LVVWD emergency number, (702) 258-3150.L
