Man accused of hitting boy on bike charged with two felonies

LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police have released more information about the hit-and-run crash that left a 12-year-old seriously hurt.

Police say they arrested 26-year-old Javier Gonzalez-Valencia in connection with the crash Friday evening near Lake Mead Boulevard and Pecos Road.

According to Metro Police, at around 9 p.m. Friday, Gonzalez-Valencia was driving recklessly along a residential street in the area, lost control of his truck, hit several parked cars and the 12 year old, who was riding his bike in the street with other kids.

After hitting the child, the car made a U-turn and drove at the kids again, police said.

Gonzalez-Valencia stopped aiming at the children when a neighbor fired a gun at the car. He then left the scene. Police found Gonzalez-Valencia at his home and took him into custody. He has been charged with felony hit and run and felony DUI.

The 12-year-old was taken to University Medical Center Trauma Unit with non-life-threatening injuries.
