Man arrested for attempted armed drunken home invasion; claims PTSD

LAS VEGAS - A man claiming, he was an infantryman and PTSD patient is in police custody due to an attempted apartment home invasion.

Metro Police say 45-year-old Matthew Chesnutt is facing charges of Attempted Home Invasion and Possession of a Gun under the influence of Alcohol/Drug for a November 8 incident.

According to an arrest report, Chesnutt attempted to get into an apartment home before 8:30 a.m. and told police, “Yes, I was trying to get into the house.” The details of the report state Chesnutt told police he was crazy, Army infantryman, and suffering Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Chesnutt repeatedly tried entering a home where he had no residency while smelling of alcohol, according to police.

While being asked to take a sobriety test, Chesnutt stated he was too intoxicated to complete the tests. Chesnutt later declined blood, breath tests, and told police he took Trazedone to treat his PTSD.

One resident told Police Chesnutt tried breaking into his home while speaking to 911 responders while protecting his wife and infant child.

Police arrested Chesnutt at the scene and discovered he had a .45 caliber handgun in his possession.

Chesnutt is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center.
