Man arrested in Aug. 9 homicide that happened in driveway of victim's home

LAS VEGAS - Metro Police arrested the man suspected of killing another man in the driveway of his home on Aug. 9.

Demario Lofton-Robinson was arrested for the shooting death of  24-year-old Gabriel Valenzuela.

Metro Police's 82nd homicide of the year happened early Wednesday morning near Russell and Lindell.  Metro says Lofton-Robinson was one of four suspects in dark hooded sweatshirts who shot Valenzuela in his driveway while he was getting the mail.

Police said Lofton-Robinson admitted to trying to rob Valenzuela before aiming the gun at him shooting him in the chest.

Lofton-Robinson was booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

Metro police say Valenzuela did not have any criminal ties.

Friends of Valenzuela said the last time they were all together there was "nothing but pure joy" filing the atmosphere.

"I remember when we got the grades; me, him and this other classmate of ours starting celebrating in the parking lot," said Ronn Baguyo, Valenzuela's friend.  "I remember that day. He was just so happy."

Baguyo and Kelani Anderson are nursing students at the College of Southern Nevada where Valenzuela attended school.  School for the two students starts in two weeks but they'll head to class without Valenzuela.

They described Valenzuela as a joker and extremely smart.

"Everybody loved Gabe," Anderson said.

"He was the sweetest guy, that's why it's so tragic," said Baguyo. "It just breaks my heart everyrtime I look at the pictures."

"I'm definitely going to carry his spirit with me through this next semester," Anderson said.

"It just makes me sad," Baguyo said. "I won't be able to see that smile. The goofy faces he makes. I'm still in shock."
