Man Arrested in Wheelchair Thefts

LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police have arrested a man in connection with the theft of two wheelchairs last week.

Uber Flores, 35, was booked in Clark County jail on a count of grand larceny and two counts of possession of stolen property Tuesday.

Two custom wheelchairs, valued at $4,000 each, were taken from in front of the home of Nathan Peitz, who was born with spina bifida, a debilitating birth defect that results in the incomplete development of the spinal cord.

Peitz and his friend, Sean Thomas, owned the wheelchairs that were stolen. The wheelchairs were brought to a recycling yard to be sold as scrap metal.

Flores is due in court at 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
