Man dead following gun battle with police in Golden Valley, Arizona

LAS VEGAS - A 54-year-old man is dead following a gun battle with narcotic detectives in Arizona on Tuesday.

According to a news release from the Mohave County Sheriff's Office, detectives were following a man they believed was wanted for questioning in connection with a drug search. When police tried to make contact with the man, he fled on foot and during the pursuit engaged in a gun battle with the officers.

The man, identified as Silas Andrew Smith of Bellflower, California, was shot and died at the scene. It was later determined he was not the man wanted in connection with the search warrant.
