Man in critical condition after being shot by police officer

LAS VEGAS - A man is in critical condition after police shot him Monday morning at an apartment complex on West Tropicana Avenue near South Fort Apache Road.

The shooting took place at the Apache Pines apartment complex around 1 a.m.

Police say it started as a domestic situation with a man was threatening his family with a gun. A woman and three children were hiding in a closet while they waited for police to arrive.

The man left the apartment as police arrived and approached officers with the gun. According to police, the man ignored commands to drop the weapon and moved the gun toward the officers causing an officer to fire at him, police said.

The man suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach and he's currently in critical condition at University Medical Center.

No officers were injured.
