LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police have arrested a 33-year-old woman in connection with the death of her boyfriend after he was run over by a sports utility vehicle about 10 p.m. Monday.
According to police, Sounilak Ouchlaeun, of Las Vegas, and her boyfriend were fighting in the 4300 block of Mammoth Creek Drive, near Flamingo Road and Buffalo Drive, when she got into her SUV and tried to leave.
According to the arrest report, she told police she did not see her boyfriend, identified in the report as Rio casino card dealer Conrado Mendoza, standing behind her vehicle. She also had two small dogs in the car with her, and she said they were barking and she couldn't hear anything else.
"Anytime that we add drugs or alcohol and some kind of domestic disturbance takes place, there is always a potential for violence," Metro Police spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said. "It's not against the law, it's not criminal, to have an argument or to have a disagreement, but when that turns violent and people start placing hands on each other, then it becomes a crime."
Witnesses told police the man was standing behind the car when Ouchlaeun backed up the car and ran him over in the driveway. Officers found the man's body under the rear of the car.
"It's sad as this is a great neighborhood and we've never had anything like this happen," neighbor Valerie Kravetz said.
Ouchlaeun told officers she didn't intend to run over Mendoza. However, a witness told police they saw a man come out and put his hands on the back window and say, "Stop" and "No, don't" before Ouchlaeun backed up her car. The witness told police there was no doubt Ouchlaeun knew the man was back there.
Ouchlaeun was taken into custody and faces charges of murder with a deadly weapon.
