Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Murder Case

LAS VEGAS -- Akeem Tripp was sentenced to a maximum of 20 years for the murder of his girlfriend's former boyfriend.

Tripp pleaded guilty to murder in the shooting death of Phillip Hooks, 29, in March 2012 at the Universe Sunrise Mountains apartments near Stewart Avenue and Nellis Boulevard.

Tripp became a suspect in the case after police learned he bragged about the shooting to a neighbor. Tripp said he was upset with Hooks for getting into a fight with his girlfriend.

Tripp will be eligible for parole in eight years.
